So many people have cancer…..something like 1 in 3 in the USA……we all know someone close to us who has contracted it. Yet biomedical scientists have been searching for a cure for 50 years. A conventional treatment often consists of chemotherapy plus radiation, both of which are toxic (poisons) and kill good cells as well as bad cells. This can be a real dilemma to a cancer patient who faces sickness and hair loss and energy depletion while on this regimen, which can last for weeks.

Along comes a new book that arose from interviews with many cancer patients who weren’t expected to live…..but their cancers had radical remission. The book presents behaviors and factors common to these cancer patients. Nine factors are identified, and there are some surprises!

The book is called Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds, by Dr Kelly Turner. This attractive young author is a Ph D, not a medical doctor, and the book is the result of painstaking R&D. You can watch a fascinating interview by clicking on the link.

Background to book: The following is an excerpt from the Amazon link. “While getting her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkley, Dr. Turner was shocked to discover that no one was studying episodes of radical (or unexpected) remission – when people recover against all odds without the help of conventional medicine, or after conventional medicine has failed.

She was so fascinated by this kind of remission that she embarked on a ten month trip around the world, traveling to ten different countries to interview fifty integrative healers and twenty radical remission cancer survivors about their healing practices and techniques. Her research continued by interviewing over 100 Radical Remission survivors and studying over 1000 of these cases. Her evidence presents nine common themes that she believes may help even terminal patients turn their lives around”.

The book uncovers nine factors that can lead to a spontaneous remission from cancer – even after conventional medicine has failed. Each of the nine factors is a separate chapter in the book:

1. Radically changing your diet (no sweets, no meat, no dairy, no refined foods)
2. Taking control of your health
3. Following your intuition
4. Using herbs and supplements
5. Releasing suppressed emotions
6. Increasing positive emotions
7. Embracing social support
8. Deepening your spiritual connection
9. Having strong reasons for living

Takeaways:
• The diet chapter is strong on fresh fruit and vegetables.
• This book shows that there are other, non-conventional approaches that can be adopted in a fight against cancer. Note: The author is not against conventional medicine.
• Combining the conventional with the non-conventional is called Integrative Medicine, as first labeled by Dr Weil. It’s the best of both worlds. Dr Weil wrote two books called Spontaneous Healing, and Spontaneous Happiness, and I learned a lot from both these books about integrative medicine.

• Nine factors in this new book can be adopted by folks without cancer as a preventive measure.
• The meditation factor in the book can be considered prayer by active Christians. It’s interesting to see a secular move toward one of the hallmarks of Christian faith. But not just toward one hallmark….. you will be able to identify several of them (look again at the nine factors listed above).

Probing the practice of Christian believers……

I am indebted to my brother Clive who drew my attention to this book Radical Remission.

Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”

So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days. At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead. (Daniel chapter 1).
